Mardi Gras, as many know, means Fat Tuesday, as introduced to the world by The French, which resulted in carnival events that originated in Mobile, Alabama and spread to New Orleans, Louisiana and still exists today in many cities.
The first Mardi Gras occurrence in Eureka Springs was in 1907 with a parade and two balls.
EurekaGras was founded in 2005 by Hurricane Katrina transplants to Eureka Springs and has now grown with many events throughout January, February and culminating with the finale on Fat Tuesday - Tuesday, February, 13, 2024.
As the last tinsel is carefully stored away and the aroma of King Cake begins to fill the air, the transition from Christmas to Mardi Gras marks a shift from one festive season to another in Eureka Springs.
